IRNA - Iranian striker and
Asia`s Player of the Year Mehdi Mahdavikia has to decide by Friday whether
he is going to accept Hamburg`s final offer, the club`s team manager Dietmar
Beiersdorfer said Tuesday.
The Hamburg official rejected an earlier
request by Mahdavikia to extend the club deadline, according to the team
website.
"I have talked with Mehdi and have told him that the deadline will not be
extended. We want to know whether he accepts the new contract or not,"
Beiersdorfer said.
"Mehdi has confirmed that it`s not due to finances but that he wants to wait
out the sports perspective. However it (sports perspective) won`t change in
a week anyway," he added.
Hamburg had initially issued a January 31 ultimatum to the ex-Pirouzi player
but apparently withdrew it for yet unknown reasons.
Meanwhile Mahdavikia`s personal manger Reza Fazeli has reportedly been
involved for quite some time in ongoing talks with officials of fellow
German Bundesliga team Schalke 04, various news reports said.
Mahdavikia whose current contract runs out this summer, is seeking around 3
million euros a year in salary.
